My Work as a McKenzie Friend

I provide practical guidance, emotional support and help with court paperwork so that people representing themselves can understand the process and present their case clearly and calmly.

My work includes supporting parents with child arrangements, Cafcass preparation, statements, evidence, hearing preparation, divorce and financial remedy proceedings.

I work mainly across SuffolkNorfolkEssex, London, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire, but I can assist parents anywhere in England & Wales through remote calls and online meetings.

My Approach

My approach is clear, calm and practical.

I listen carefully before helping someone organise their situation, understand what may happen next and prepare for the decisions ahead. The aim is to reduce unnecessary confusion and conflict while keeping the child’s welfare and the client’s long-term position in view.

I am not a solicitor or barrister. My role is to support people representing themselves while working within the recognised boundaries of a McKenzie Friend.

Writing and Media Contributions

Alongside client work, I write about the family court process, access to justice and the practical realities facing litigants in person.

My work has appeared in professional and specialist publications including Today’s Family LawyerThe Divorce MagazineChronicle lawResonate blog and SME Today.

I have also written for Anglia Kisokos and HungliaOnline, helping Hungarian-speaking families understand the family court process in England and Wales, including the Child Focused Courts and Pathfinder reforms.

Conflict by Design

Writing has become an important part of how I examine patterns within the family court process.

My book, Conflict by Design, explores how adversarial family proceedings can shape parental perception, behaviour and decision-making, even where both parents believe they are acting in their child’s best interests.

Family Court Conversations

I also host Family Court Conversations, a series of interviews with McKenzie Friends and other family court professionals.

The conversations allow families to hear directly about different professional backgrounds, approaches and areas of work. Selected guests are also featured in the McKenzie Friend Guide.

Professional Standards

I am an Associate Member of Resolution, maintain Professional Indemnity Insurance through Hiscox, and am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

I am also a member of the Ipswich & Suffolk Small Business Association (ISSBA) and the Stowmarket & District Chamber of Commerce, supporting my professional connections across Suffolk and East Anglia.
