What is a McKenzie Friend?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A McKenzie Friend is a trained person who helps you in court by giving guidance, emotional support, and help with documents.<br>They can quietly advise you, take notes, and help you prepare \u2014 but they are <em>not<\/em> a solicitor or barrister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. What is the difference between a McKenzie Friend and a solicitor?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A solicitor represents you and speaks on your behalf in court.<br>A McKenzie Friend <em>supports you directly<\/em> \u2014 helping you stay calm, understand the process, and prepare your paperwork at a much lower cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Can I take a McKenzie Friend to a court hearing?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes. The court rules under <em>Family Procedure Rules 2010, Rule 27.11<\/em> allow any litigant to bring a McKenzie Friend, unless there\u2019s a clear reason to refuse (which is very rare).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. What can a McKenzie Friend do in court?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>They can:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sit beside you<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Help you organise papers and evidence<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Whisper advice or pass written notes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Suggest questions to ask<br>They normally <strong>cannot speak directly to the judge<\/strong>, unless the judge gives permission.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5. Do you meet clients in person or online?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Both.
